religious belief and/or political climate that produced it.

opinions of other scholars to support your thesis statement. You may need to adjust your
thesis statement after you have done your research. This is fine.
My thesis statement:
The Love Suicides of Amijima was written in 1720 by Chinese playright, Chikamatsu
Monzaemon. This play was written at a time and place where Confucianism was a popular
belief and we see the beliefs reflected in the story when a married man falls in love with a
prostitute. The beliefs forbid that a man abandons his wife, which leads to the suicide because it was the honorable way.
