Peer Reviewed Journal Article Critique Format
You are required to read a research article from a peer reviewed child development journal or
related research journal and provide a minimum 3 page critique of the article. The article you
choose should be a review of research on issues in child development, or a research-based
discussion of a particular subject related to this area or dealing with the development or
education of young children as has been discussed thus far in class.
Please follow these directions:
1) Your summary/critique should be typewritten (12-point font, times new roman or calibri,
double-spaced) and clearly express the issues that were raised in the research. Include the
following areas, as necessary: development and guidance, parent-child relationships, education,
communication, etc.
2) Briefly summarize the content of the article that includes the problem identified, its
importance, the results and the conclusions reached.
3) Provide a critical analysis of the research, including brief details of the methodology along
with strengths and weaknesses of the link between the design and the conclusions.
4) Give a professional reaction, in professional language without the use of “I”, including
strengths and weaknesses to the study; state the facts but also give a reasoned professional
opinion on the validity of the researcher’s conclusions, and on any professional ideas and
suggestions for dealing with the issue or problem.
5) All writing, citations and references should be in an APA format. Only Times New Roman or
Calibri, 12 point font, double spacing. Other formatting details include:
 Cover Page (with RUNNING HEAD using APA style)
 Brief Statement of the author’s purpose
 Model, theory, or treatments discussed
 Settings/Students/Situations
 Discussion/Implications: this analysis should include the following: child development,
education information and development issues related to this course, and implications
