Nursing has come a long way from the days of Florence Nightingale; however, as technology and patient needs continue to evolve and change, so does healthcare and nurses should be at the forefront of these processes and play a fundamental role. In addition, there are also barriers that still need to be overcome so nurses can respond to these evolving changes as well as push the profession into the future. This final module offers students the ability to discuss challenges nurses are facing today related to ethical, legal, financial, or and social aspects, evaluate the messages found in the Institute of Medicine’s Future of Nursing report, and contemplate the Institute of Medicine’s five core competencies as they relate directly to nursing.
How have you met the course objectives listed in the syllabus? Has the material in the course changed your professional practice? How might learning about issues and trends in nursing influence your professional practice?
