In your opinion and in the light of the war in Ukraine that started on Feb. 24, 2022, and has been going on since:
How has the spread of social media and smartphones affected the quality of information we are receiving about the events in Ukraine?
Have our media freedoms/free expression increased, or have we become way too inundated with information?
Have we – in the United States, or in the West/developed world – been subjected to censorship?
What is your prognosis for the future, as far as the media are concerned?
Make sure to start with a clear thesis – that is, a paragraph that summarizes your position in a nutshell. Wrap up all these question into one for a start and then break them up into bits when backing up your opinion with facts. It is an essay in a fairly free format but you need solid grounding in facts, research, information, news. Make a logical case for whatever you write!
For your searches of what’s been going on check Lexis-Nexis, ProQuest, Infotrac or some other online source (even Google, but that’s usually counterproductive) Go to the library guide at https://csulb.libguides.com/sb_jour. Use the textbook plus any additional materials you may find (i.e., materials from the course packet, Canvas, and library research, at least six (6) news or (unlikely) academic sources. Attribute and cite properly and don’t forget to attach references at the end.
Three possible problems students have encountered in such papers are:
Not providing (enough) sources, or not making logical conclusions based on sources; everything you say must be grounded in the facts you have found. You are expected to comment on facts, analyze them – not pull conjectures out of the hot air.
Not attributing properly and/or not including a reference list at the end; I must be able to see what your sources were and, if I need to, go to these sources myself; you need to use the APA citation style for all papers in JOUR312I.
Plagiarizing – that is, using someone else’s words without proper attribution, or getting a paper from a “paper mill” or a previous student.
