For this assignment, students should search library databases for a topical, contemporary article on the consumer behavior topics and concepts included in the text and/or discussed in class. This article review is not limited to only beginning concepts or topics covered in the specific module; students can choose any topic in consumer behavior or choose topics from any chapter.
A minimum 700 word review should be submitted following the guidelines below. The original article must also be submitted AND captioned within the review. The textbook, the original article, and at least one additional source should be referenced. APA7 formatting is required for both body and references. (In general, this means a title page, running head, level 1 headers, double-spaced, Times New Roman 12-point font, NO use of first person, NO use of contractions, and a separate reference page.)
Regarding articles:
Preferably published within the last three years but no later than five years ago. Articles within the last 18-24 months are strongly preferred.
New reports are not acceptable. It must be a substantive article. How do you know? Here are a few things to look out for:
Must be more than 1,000 words. The average article in a magazine or periodical will be between 2,500 and 5,000 words. The average scholarly article will be more than this.
Must be published in a business magazine, periodical, trade journal, professional journal, or news-affiliated magazine. For example, there is a difference between a feature article in the New York Times Magazine and one you would find on CNN.
Cannot be from a wire service or a media blog. Watch the length and substance.
Scholarly journals within the time frame are the safest bet for article choice.
Article topic must tie to the course and students must use the textbook to discuss the article.
Each article review must include these sections:
Title page (title case)
Article caption at top of first page of text (APA7 style) to identify the article (APA7 Level 1)
Summary of the article, its context, and author’s purpose (APA7 Level 1)
Assessment of the article* (L1), which includes
Background of the issue (APA7 Level 2)
Application of consumer behavior or subject (L2)
Managerial implications for consumer behavior (L2)
Meaningful quotes/statements (APA7 Level 1)
References (APA7 style)
*ASSESSMENT OF THE ARTICLE: This is the core of the Review. I want you to assess the article critically which doesn’t necessarily mean negatively. “Critically” here means going beyond surface reactions, understanding and presenting the background of the issue, and applying theory and concepts to managerial decisions. How well did the author(s) state and support their position? What do they use to do so? What else do you feel needs to be said or examined besides the points the author(s) made? Also assess gaps in the theory.
Style and format:
Cite and reference the original article, the course textbook, and at least one additional source. Searches in the MBU Learning Center Databases will help with finding additional articles.
The article review must be formatted as an APA7 style academic paper with sections as outlined below with appropriate title case, Level 1 and Level 2 headings, and Reference section.
Listed below in a Word Document is example of formatting style. Use as example only, do not copy information from the article.
