For the legal issue paper, you will research a legal topic of interest to you and/or your employer.
The paper should be between eight-to-twelve typewritten pages in length (your title page and reference page do not count against this page limit).
This paper should include at least 8 scholarly references.
Use APA style.
The legal issue paper must be completed individually.
The legal issue paper should include the following sections as headers. Please develop your own subheaders. Subheaders are becoming increasingly important as technology and related content access and consumption evolve.
Introduction
Include a thesis statement and roadmap.
Legal history and evolution
Include past law, present law, and how and why the law evolved overtime.
Current status
You may also include how you predict the law to change in the future.
General business implications
Explain the impact of the current legal and regulatory framework, and how it has changed overtime, on general business and industry.
Specific implications for your organization
Explain how the current legal and regulatory framework, including how it has changed over time, has affected your businesses processes and productivity.
Recommendation for your organization
This can include procedural changes to accommodate this law, planning for a predicted change in law, or a recommendation to lobby legislators for a specific change in law.
This is the most important section of your paper. It should be at least two (2) pages in length. It should be as specific as possible. A member of your organization should be able to read this section of your paper and take meaningful action as a result.
Many students have found this paper fits well in section four of the Management Application Portfolio.
Special note: Please be sure to include a thesis statement and a roadmap in your paper. The thesis statement tells the reader what your argument is, or otherwise what your original contribution is going to be in the paper. A roadmap tells the reader what you will tell them. If you are not sure what your original contribution is, use your recommendation to your company as the basis of your thesis statement.
For assistance with formatting your paper in APA, see the CSP Library’s APA 7 guide, which includes templates and sample papers.

This paper will recommend that my organization lobbies Minnesota lawmakers to modify Minnesota’s state tax-code to comport with recent tax reform at the federal level, in order to promote cost-avoidance. The following will explain the changes that were made at the federal level in 2017 and why it presents a challenge for Minnesota companies and an opportunity for Minnesota lawmakers. This paper will then discuss general business and policy implications of inaction by Minnesota lawmakers, and propose a framework for updating our state tax-code going forward.
