Context
You have seen the documentary The Social Dilemma by the Center for Humane Technology and read work by scholars featured in the film: excerpts from addiction psychologist Anna Lemke’s Dopamine Nation, social psychologist Shoshanna Zuboff’s The Age of Surveillance Capitalism, and data scientist Cathy O’Neill’s Weapons of Math Destruction. Each of these scholars critiques of social media from one perspective—its psychological impacts (Lemke), its economic model (Zuboff), and its technological infrastructure (O’Neill).
Task
The question now is: how do we fix social media? What might the future of social media look like if we are to avoid these downsides? In a paper of 1,500 words, please answer these questions from each of these three perspectives—psychological, economic, technological—quoting from each of the three texts. While this paper does not requireoutside research, you may want to include other sources as evidence to support your argument, such as the documentary itself.
Guidelines
All papers must be typed in 12-point type, double-spaced, with one-inch margins, in an easily legible typeface and have a proper heading, including a word count. You must include in-text citations and a list of works cited that conform correctly and completely to the APA guidelines we’ve discussed. Please note that I will not accept drafts that are under the minimum word count. This paper will be completed in two drafts.
