BACKGROUND: The development of criminal justice decisions relies heavily on research evidence. The use of well-designed and well-executed research will allow us to better understand the effects of policies, programs, and everyday practices, as well as determine whether they are effective, for example in reducing crime. RESEARCH ASSIGNMENT: The student will prepare a research paper by evaluating a position regarding an issue, problem area, or policy within criminal justice or a related field. This assignment will be uploaded in Module 4. Example topics: (1) New Abortion Bill in some states; (2) Racial Profiling Policy; and (3) Juvenile Crime A few of the benefits of evaluation research are listed below: Analyze the operations of a project, research, or program It is crucial to conduct evaluation research so that you can determine what works and what does not work. Where we have been, where we are, and where we are headed. You will be able to identify areas of improvement as well as strengths. By doing so, you can decide what needs to be focused on more and whether there are threats to your evaluated topic. In addition, you can find out if there are any untapped markets that are currently undiscovered. Improve practice In order to provide better service to your customers, you need to gauge your past performance. You can’t improve your stuff unless there’s two-way communication. Employees and customers can tell you how they feel and what they’d like to change with evaluation research. A practice can be modified or adopted so that it increases your chances of success. Assess the effects As a result of evaluating your efforts, you will be able to determine whether your objectives and targets have been met. Using evaluations, you can determine whether or not the intended benefits are reaching the intended audience, and if so, how effectively. Build capacity Using evaluations, you can analyze the demand pattern and predict if you need more money, upgrade skills, or improve efficiency. This lets you figure out where there are gaps in the production to delivery chain.
