Attend a community-based group of your choice. You can find a group by contacting a local community center, hospital, social service agency or conducting a search online. Ideally, you will observe a group conducted by a social worker. If you cannot find one, an Alcoholics or Narcotics Anonymous is a good option.
You must identify yourself as a social work student. Not doing so violates the NASW Code of Ethics as you may be seen to be representing yourself as a consumer and not a student. You must document that you have done so in your paper.
Please complete a paper (not to exceed 3 pages) using the following headings. Please cite at least two academic sources in your paper.

Explain how you located the group and were allowed to observe
Group Type and Composition
Identify the type of group (support, treatment, task group)
Describe the composition of attendees
What did you notice about the group members with regard to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, age, gender, sexual orientation, and ability?
Observations
What did you observe about this group?
Was there a leader or facilitator? What were his/her behaviors?
How did the attendees seem to respond/interact?
Describe the culture of the group
Did you notice any rituals or traditions?
What was it like to attend this group?
What kinds of thoughts, feelings, and associations did you have when walking into the room and throughout the meeting?
