Assessment on this course is designed to test your achievement of the learning outcomes listed above. You
will be assessed using the following assessment components:
• Individual Coursework (50% of course mark)
The coursework for C18HM asks you to answer one of 3 questions outlined below. The maximum word
count is 1500 words (plus or minus 10 percent) (excluding the reference list and title page). This
assessment meets the course learning outcomes.
• Final Invigilated on-campus Examination (50% of course mark)
The exam will be 2 hours in duration on campus during the final exam diet in December. Further
information will be provided in the tutorials and lectures. The exam meets the course learning outcomes.
Marking criteria for each assessment are available in the Assessment on this course Canvas Module. These
criteria are used to evaluate your work against the learning outcomes for this course and therefore you
should ensure that you understand the criteria and focus on what matters. Support to complete course
assessment is provided during tutorials and in the assessment documentation uploaded to Canvas. There
will be opportunities to answer questions about the assessment during the lectures.
Individual Coursework
All students of the Human Resource Management course must write an essay based on one of the following
topics:
Option 1. Organisations conduct human resource planning (HRP) to determine actions that must be taken to
respond to future needs. Discuss (1) the challenges of HRP, and (2) how to improve the effectiveness of the
planning process.
Option 2. ‘Despite the challenges of e-recruitment, many businesses still prefer to use it’. Critically discuss
why this is the case.
Option 3. ‘Systematic and ongoing identification of learning and development (L&D) needs is key in ensuring
effective learning across an organisation’. Critically evaluate this statement.
In order to do well in this assignment, you need to offer a critical discussion and apply the theories
introduced in the course, while supporting your arguments with academic literature and industrial
examples.
The maximum word count is 1500 words (plus or minus 10 percent) (excluding the reference list and title
page). You must use a minimum of 15 academic references to support your answer.
The assessment is due before 4pm Edinburgh/4pm Malaysia/4pm Dubai on 30th of October 2023 (week 8).
Submission of Coursework. An electronic Word file of your individual coursework MUST be submitted to the
correct link for your campus of registration (via the ‘Assignments’ area on Canvas). No hard copy of your work
