This paper will examine your understanding of critical thinking indicators, as well as, looking at teamwork and collaboration in nursing. As you read the following scenario, think about those critical thinking indicators you see that are present, or not present, that may help the situation. Your paper will, in part, include responses to the following case study scenario.
“Several nurses who have worked together for the past 6 months do not feel like they are working as a team and want to change this. Their manager, Lindsey, is a busy person who has a demanding boss that she reports to. Under pressure, Lindsey barks orders and personally takes over some tasks, including patient care. She does not foster an environment of growth and encouragement, offering few learning opportunities for the nurses and shedding much light on mistakes and little on achievements. The staff responds by doing what they are told or lying low until things calm down. There is minimal group participation in problem-solving and decision-making. The nurses want to execute their responsibilities in a satisfactory and professional manner, but no one has given thought to the need for group goals or concerted group action. Morale is low, and everyone talks about how unhappy they are. Some want to leave the unit for a better work environment, others are concerned that patient safety is at risk. Based on what you have learned in this class, what would you, as part of this team, implement or suggest to stimulate an environment of teamwork and collaboration among the staff?”
