Topic Religoion, Spirituality and Faith. I will go to a Church.

This assignment requires you to select a social and cultural inequity issue that you are passionate enough to take action on. Students are encouraged to select an inequity issue that challenges or confronts some of their identified biases or assumptions. For example, if you are less familiar with or uncomfortable with an issue this would be one signal that you could select said issue. You will formulate the following as part of this project throughout the semester a) problem statement, b) identify a local organization working to address this problem, c) taking part in one of the efforts that helps address this problem and d) sharing your project in a short visually supported presentation in the course.
a) Problem statement: Clearly identify a social or cultural inequity that impacts the health or mental health of a community. What is the counselor’s role in this problem issue?
b) Resources & experience: Identify a local agency or organization working to address this problem. Your role is to immerse yourself with this organization in some way either through interviewing staff, volunteering or other methods of immersion you seek approval for with the professor.
c) Take action: Engage in at least one justice or advocacy effort that helps address this problem. Get active in some way, shape or form in addressing this inequity. The manner in which you take action will differ for each of you. Identify 2 ways other counselors can get involved and future efforts you would suggest getting involved in to create change.
For many students these projects can be tied to the social and cultural identity or group you facilitate a discussion about, but it does not have to be. You will share the above information a-c in a visually supported product (with evidence to demonstrate your involvement in the steps above). This will be shared with your peers and the product can be a video, recorded presentation, blog post or web portfolio.
