The upper Paleolithic period was marked by significant behavioral and technological advancements in human history, with one of its key cultural phases being the Gravettian period (~33,000 to 21,000 bp). Gravettian communities, particularly in the middle Danube region, showed a remarkable ability to adapt to the diverse landscapes and fluctuating climates. Under the constant changing environment, Gravettian populations thrived by utilizing a wide range of subsistence practices and technological innovations. Not only is the subject of adaptation to environmental conditions relevant today as it adds to our holistic understanding of Gravettian culture by providing insights into their subsistence practices, sociocultural systems, and interactions with their environment but because it also contributes to our broader understanding of human resilience and adaptability to a changing environment. A theme that remains timely in the wake of climate change, ecological crisis, and ongoing ecological disasters that we are currently experiencing. In this paper I aim to analyze how these communities responded to their local landscape, climate, and resource availability. To achieve this, I will thoroughly analyse the available literature concentrating on archaeological and palaeobotanical studies in the Middle Danube region.
