The Company I will be focusing on is Yum Brands Inc. The brands name is not as mainstream as others such as Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, or KFC. However, in reality it is the master company that these famous food chains derive from. Yum Brands is not the first name that comes in mind personally or perhaps for most of the public, but it does contain many successful and favorite food businesses. My search initially was conducted to research Pizza Hut, but after learning the main company that owned this famous pizza place It was decided that my efforts into researching would go into Yum Brands Inc.
Yum Brands used to be associated with PepsiCo in 1977. Yum Brands future existence started in 1997 when PepsiCo spun off its restaurant division into a separate company called Tricon Global. Tricon became the parent company to KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell. In 2002 Tricon changed its name and that’s when it became Yum Brands. It has since grown to own many other food chains. Despite its success like all companies, it does have its challenges.
Recently Yum Brands has reported a quarterly earning that was short of their analyst’s forecast. Recent sales In China increased for KFC and Pizza Hut and the company was still found short of expectations. “Yum reported net income of $300 million, or $1.05 per share, down from $399 million, or $1.36 per share, a year earlier. The company said its earnings decreased by 7 cents per share due to declines in the value of unnamed investments and took an 8 cent per share hit because of foreign currency (Lucas 2023)”.
