SW1 Prompt:
Many historians argue that one key element of the witch hunts is a new understanding of witches that developed in the 1400s, a definition of a witch as someone with a relationship with the devil. Levack, for example, points to this on p. 8 of the intro we read from The Witch Hunt in Early Modern Europe.
Given the primary sources we have read, how important is the relationship with the devil in making someone a witch in the minds of early modern people? Why is that relationship important (or not)?
Back up your answer with evidence from both the Malleus Malificarum AND at least 2 of the primary sources we read in week 2. You may also use Levack but do not need to. I highly discourage you from using sources beyond that as this is not an assignment to gauge your ability to research but rather the assess your readings, critical thinking, and writing abilities.
