Project 4: Value Scales & Sphere

Part 1: Create three value scales. Each value scale will be comprised of nine one inch squares – three high key tones, three midtones, three shadow tones. Your first box will be your darkest tone, your last box will be the lightest tone.
Value Scale #1 you will make using your charcoal, chamois and blending stubs.
Value Scale #2 you will make using cross hatching method with pen and ink.
Value Scale #3 you will make using the line quality of your choosing with graphite
Take care that each of your values marks a step in the correct tonal direction; Therefore creating a gradual tonal shift from light to dark. Also, be sure that you evenly blend each value square, so that it creates an area of equal value.
Part 2: Draw a sphere with a single light source and cast shadow. Using your charcoal and blending stubs, make sure you capture the highlight, high key tones, midtones, shadow tones and cast shadow. Create smooth transitions between the values of the ball by blending with your blending stumps or finger.
Materials: Pencils, Newsprint Pad, Pencil Sharpener, Ink, pen, tape, ruler, eraser, kneaded eraser, charcoal, blending stubs, chamois, water cup.
