Part 1 Children in each classroom are diverse in terms of culture, experience, motivation, and ability. Within the writing process described in the resources, (and in the “Writer’s Workshop” article in particular), each child is at a different place in the process on any given activity. A teacher’s responsibility is to help children move deeper into each phase of writing. Select one writing activity (from Chapter 12 or Part Four of the Tompkins text or from an outside resource) that you would like to incorporate into a second- or third-grade-level classroom, either physical or online. Try to select an activity that is effective at addressing differences in children and allows each child an opportunity to participate. Post an analysis that addresses the following issues: Describe the writing activity and explain a specific example of how you would use it. Explain how this activity promotes reading development and positive writing experiences by writing competently and confidently with accuracy and imagination. Explain the positive effects on writing for providing instruction on the structure of the English language: sentence structure, grammar, punctuation, capitalization, spelling, syntax, and semantics. Explain how the writing strategy supports English-language learners. Explain how this strategy supports gifted learners. Include citations from the resources that support your analysis Part 2 Review the stages of reading in Chapter 4 of the Tompkins text in addition to this week’s Learning Resources. Think about what makes a reader an emergent, beginning, or fluent reader. Review this week’s resources with the stages of reading in mind and consider a topic to begin creating a book set. Think about the different reading processes necessary for different types of informational materials. Think about children’s books you have available and how these address a range of genres, eras, perspectives, and cultures. Post an analysis of two children’s books using, “Steps to Evaluating Books Worksheet,” on page 5 from “Selecting and Using Culturally Responsive Children’s Books” in this week’s Learning Resources. Include citations from the resources that support your analysis
