Module 05: Introduction
The course began exploring classical trade theory using a simple model based on assumptions that tend to be overly restrictive. We gradually relax some of those assumptions to better capture the complexity of the real world while preserving the fundamental insights of the model. In this module, comparative advantage will be explored. Learning OutcomesDifferentiate the different types of tariff and non-tariff trade barriers.
Judge the welfare effects of tariff trade barriers.
Critique arguments for and against erecting trade barriers under different circumstances.

Select a country of your choice (other than Saudi Arabia) and discuss why the country imposes trade barriers. What is the effect on the economy of the country? (Analyze the effect on the trade balance, employment, and economic growth). What are the arguments for and against trade barriers in your chosen country?
