Just as breakfast is often considered the most important meal of the day, audience analysis is one of the most important parts of any communication. Unfortunately, much like breakfast, conducting audience analysis is a step that many people often skip. As Michael and Suzanne Osborn note, “The more you know about your audience and speaking situation, the more effective your communication will be,” (2006, p. 105).
For this posting, you have been divided into four groups. Each group will analyze a different cereal by profiling the different audiences that are targeted. First, you will need to conduct a demographic audience analysis of the type of person you believe would purchase the specific cereal that you have been assigned. Use the cereal boxes as clues to reveal typical purchasers’ age range, gender, economic background, social status, group membership, etc. Then use the boxes to analyze possible interests and personality traits of the cereal purchasers. Be creative and imaginative, but provide the evidence that led you to make certain conclusions regarding the purchasers.
Each person will then present your findings in a 250 word discussion posting that describes the cereal box and explains the audience profile you have generated.
After posting your findings, respond to one classmates’ posting.
