My dissertation studies the marketing strategies of agritourism venues in Mississippi, specifically the diversification and digital marketing strategies employed by these businesses. To deepen my understanding of this industry, I selected two dissertations that examine agritourism from varying perspectives. Both dissertations utilized tables to express or characterize the research findings in a helpful and meaningful way. One table was selected from each study, and the contents of the tables are discussed below.
Understand the Alabama Agritourism Industry: Motivation, Value, and Cost
Casey (2021) explores the perspectives of agritourism operators in the state of Alabama concerning several factors, such as motivations to diversify into agritourism and the value of agritourism to their overall business. In the study, Table 1 summarizes information related to the operator’s reasons for venturing into agritourism. The motivating factors include generating more income, efficiently using resources, educating the public, and providing employment for family members. Table 1 provides the mean and standard deviation (descriptive statistics) for each motivating factor and the number and percentage that selected each available option of strongly agree, somewhat agree, somewhat disagree, and strongly disagree. The author uses Table 1 to convey the various relevance of each factor pertaining to the motivation to diversify into agritourism.
Expanding the Knowledge of Agritourism Benefits: Innovative Approaches to Strengthening Local Food Systems
Brune Arita (2021) examines the impact of agritourism on agricultural education and engagement in local food systems (LFS). The study involved surveys of visitors to agritourism venues in North Carolina during peak visiting periods for picking pumpkins and strawberries. The author uses various tables to describe the demographic characteristics of the respondents, including the respondent’s age, ethnicity, and sex. The percentage of respondents with each demographic characteristic is specified in the various tables. Another table displays the various questions included in one survey along with the number and percentage of respondents that answered correctly.
