In this essay, I would like you to make sense of your writer identity by recalling, exploring, and analyzing a significant writing moment(s) in your life. First, take your reader through that(those) moment(s), and then let your analysis of your experience(s) lead you to new understanding(s) about your writer identity and/or your current approach to writing. Use this essay to understand better about yourself, how you write, and why you approach writing the way you do.
Here are some questions you can address through your analysis: How have you come to think about writing and behave as a writer in the ways that you do now? What were some of your most formative experiences with writing and why were they so impactful? To what extent have the rules and methods you’ve picked up so far served you well (or not) and enhanced your confidence and skill as a writer?
You will be evaluated on:
1. Your ability to provide a clear descriiption of your writing experience(s). In other words, take your reader through your experience(s).
2. Your ability to provide a thoughtful analysis (observation to implication and implication to interpretation) of your experience(s). In other words, answer, “So what?” Don’t just tell your story but share what you have discovered or learned about yourself.
3. Your ability to communicate clearly and purposefully. In other words, thoroughly revise, edit, and proofread.
