I have to write an appeal to stay on the first shift of my job. I am a Code Enforcement Inspector. I was informed on September 20 that my class (work class) would be moved to second shift and that it was mandatory, to fill the second shift. This would cause a time conflict for me because, I am trying to go back to school. I thought that after a month of being on first shift, that would be my schedule, and I would continue to work first shift. I felt completely blindsided by the last minute notice. I had already begun the process of applying for school.
The classes for school start at 5p.m. The second shift is from 10a.m -6p.m. I’ve already filled out my FAFSA and the enrollment paperwork. My father finally agreed to fund my tuition again if I go back to school. I feel torn between work and school. I enjoy being a Code Inspector but I would like to go back to school to further my credentials in a different career path to later become an entrepreneur.I don’t want to put one career on hold for another, when I can do both. My Manager asked me to write a paper to appeal the shift change. Please help. I’ve never had to write an appeal.
