I am an elite level all star cheerleader and 3 time State Champion for my high school varsity cheer team. I’ve been cheering since I was 5 years old, won many national championships and was selected to represent Varsity in 2022 and 2023 the biggest brand in cheerleading, I was selected out of thousands of cheerleaders who applied as one of their brand ambassadors, we’re call Fashionistas. Selections were based on community involvement, impact on the cheer world, and character.
In 2019, one week before Thanksgiving, my world was turned upside down when I was diagnosed with celiac disease and autoimmune disease that attacks my body, intestines, and deprives my body of nutrients we acquire from food.
When I was diagnosed I had never even heard of celiac disease much less even know what it was. Upon diagnosis, I was immediately required to go on a very strict gluten free diet. As a girl who love pasta, bread, and cake this was devastating at the time. My disease is not curable, the only treatment is 100% gluten free diet, this meant I had to be on a strict gluten free diet for the rest of my life, otherwise, I could become very ill and it could lead to other autoimmune diseases or in worst case scenarios cancer.
So at the tender age of 13, I experienced a death for lack of a way to describe it, a death of food. The first few months of adjusting to a gluten-free lifestyle were very challenging. Instead of allowing this disease to define me, I embraced the diagnosis and learned to bake and cook all my favorite recipes gluten free. I’m now 17 years old and am in great health, I was asked to help my nutritionist to create my list of favorite brands and recipes to help children and families like me navigate stating a gluten-free lifestyle. I am now the go-to person for advice for my peers, families, friends, and often referred to others seeking a healthy gluten-free lifestyle.
I am in the process of creating a celiac cookbook filled with my favorite go-to brands, receipts, beauty products, and sweets I’ve leaned to bake from scratch. The cookbook is called “Taylor’s Panty” Everything But Gluten.
Learning to live and embrace a gluten-free lifestyle while being an elite level athlete has taught me resilience, how to accept hurdles in life, the greatest things come out of the roads less traveled, and that sometimes the most challenging moments in life can lead to your passion. I’m Taylor Shedlin, a very passion gluten-free, healthy lifestyle elite level athlete.
