Explanation of Assignment:
In this assignment, teaching candidates will demonstrate knowledge of the various Subject
Area Competencies (SACs) for social studies in the areas of
civics/government only.
The Resource Gathering Assignment requires teaching candidates to find elementary-level
instructional resources/materials for one SAC from each of the subject areas: civics/government
provided. These resources will include written resources (and adaptation when applicable), a
visual resource, and a multimedia resource intended to help the candidate develop a
repertoire for demonstrating their competency in these SACs and in gathering resources for
teaching. Each resource will be accompanied with a descriiption of the resource, its
citation/source information, a link to a Florida Social Studies Next Generation Sunshine State
Standards (grade levels K-6) (access at:
https://www.fldoe.org/core/fileparse.php/19975/urlt/5-3.pdf )
and a brief discussion
explaining how the resources would aid them in planning for and/or teaching students at the
K-6 level.
Note: You must pass each competency in this assignment in order to pass this
course. Revisions and resubmission of this assignment may be required.
More information about these specific steps to complete this assignment will be provided to
all students throughout the course.
