In the Ebook, chapter 4, it is discussed how important it is to understand your own Cultural Assumptions and Values, while working with people that have values and backgrounds that differ from yours. 1.  As a helper, do you feel it necessary that you share the cultural background of your client to be effective? 
2. Are you able to identify your basic assumptions and stereotypes, especially as they apply to diversity in culture, ethnicity, race, gender, class, religion, disability, age, and sexual orientation? How might your assumptions affect your practice as a helper with people who are different from you? 
3. Are you familiar with how your own culture has a present influence on the way you think, feel, and act? What steps could you take to broaden your base of understanding, both of your own culture and of other cultures?
