Essay #1: Systematic Racism in America and the Fight for Justice
PROMPT:
How has race in America been constructed physically, socially, and legally/politically? Consider the construction of systematic racism within our societal systems, historically and through the present day.
For this mini-essay you will choose 3 ways racism has been constructed in America, and develop your ideas with specific examples and evidence provided by Reynolds and Kendi (2020). Your evidence should demonstrate how each of your examples contributes to the racist ideas, policies and practices that have negatively impacted Black people throughout American history and today. Include references to the last chapters in Stamped to explain how systematic / systemic racism has continued in America to the present day. Do further research to back up your claims: you will need to use research outside of Stamped to develop and support your arguments.
Requirements: 2-3 page essay minimum (typed double-spaced following APA style),
5 scholarly references including Stamped, and in-text citations from sources other than Stamped. Scholarly sources include any of the following: books, peer reviewed journal articles, or websites ending in .gov, .edu etc.
If you have alternative ideas for writing this paper based on the ideas presented in Stamped, see the instructor. (40 points)
