During the first few weeks of this course, you learned about identifying students with SLDs. This week, you are going to take the knowledge that you have accumulated thus far as you learn about teaching students in specific content areas. We will focus on the language arts areas of reading, writing, and language as you study the required readings and research on your own some of the research-based strategies that work best with students with SLDs in these areas. As you find strategies, think about how you would use these in your classroom.
Download the Week 5/6 template in the Week Resources and create six teaching cards for six different research-based strategies. Try to have a combination of reading, writing, and language strategies on the six cards that you submit this week. You will submit six individual strategy cards with the references used listed on each card. Your strategies should come from a variety of sources, not all the same source. However, you may use a single source on up to two different strategy cards. This will be the beginning of a file of instructional strategies that you will use many times in the future.
Length: 6 individual strategy cards, each one page in length
References: Each card should have at least one scholarly reference. You may use the same reference for up to two cards, if desired.
