Create a rough draft (first draft) for the following prompt:
Prompt:
Describe a person who influenced your life. How did that person influence you? Be Specific. Give Details.
700 words or more.
The rough draft is due on 1/30.
Advice for this assignment:
There are two parts to this prompt:1) Describe the person and 2) How did that person influence you?
Many of you will choose a person like a friend, family member or a co-worker, classmate, teammate, coach, mentor etc.
This assignment often works best if you choose just one person to focus on.
Once you’ve decided on the person you will write about your essay can focus on areas like:
Describe the person: Tell his/her background and life story. Describe his/her personality.
How did he/she influence you? (You can focus on the person’s influence on you in the past and in the present).
Give examples and stories that bring to life your interaction with this person.
How are the two of you similar and different?
Answers to a few common questions:
The person does not need to be still living.
Although most students will write about a person who has a positive influence on them, it is not required that it be a positive influence. You could write about someone whose influence was negative or mixed but who none the less was influential on you.
Most students will write about someone that they know personally (a family member, friend etc.). However some students might choose to write about someone they’ve never met but who still influenced them (like a historical figure, artist, athlete, writer, musician etc.).
