Case Study –FitWear Ltd
FitWear Ltd is a global clothing manufacturing company with factories located in four
different countries around the world. It employs over 3000 permanent staff and has
an annual revenue of £500 million. The company produces casual clothes and
sportswear ranges, however, due to declining sales and increasing costs (primarily
through the increase in competition within the casual clothing market sector and
changing market demands) the business wants to become more market specific and
is looking to move its focus into sustainable clothing,
Through extensive research, the business has identified a change in the clothing
market where there is now a growing demand for more ethically made and
environmentally friendly clothing. This is especially prevalent in the younger
consumers who are more concerned around Fair Trade practices and eco-friendly
products. The company would like to position itself as the leading manufacturer of
sustainable clothes wear through investing in innovative technologies, refactoring
businesses processes and producing high-quality products from sustainable sources.
The company has already invested heavily in improving some of its manufacturing
processes and sourcing of raw materials. However, there is still a growing need for
the company to be more efficient and cost-effective in its operations, especially
around supply chain management. Currently, the company uses a combination of
manual and semi-automated systems to manage its supply chain. This has resulted
in inefficiencies, delays, and mistakes being made in both the obtaining of materials
and the distribution of the final products. This has been heavily highlighted through
the recent increase in complaints from both suppliers and customers regarding slow
and inaccurate processing of orders and deliveries resulting in lost sales, missed
deadlines, and reduced customer satisfaction.
There is a now an urgent need to develop a new system that can improve the
efficiency and accuracy of the supply chain management process. It is important that
this is easily accessible to internal staff, suppliers and customer and it takes into
consideration the requirements of all these stakeholders. The expectation is that the
new system should include real time tracking for orders, inventory, and shipments to
provide accurate and up-to-date information to both the business and its customers.
It should allow suppliers to submit their quotations and receive purchase orders
electronically, eliminating the need for manual processing and reducing the time and
cost of procurement. Due to recent challenges relating to breaches of online
systems, there is also a need to ensure that all data are handled with in a safe and
compliant manner especially as this system will be used across many different
countries. It would also be useful to have a dashboard that provides real-time data
and analytics to help users monitor and identify any issues with orders. However,
there is uncertainty around how this should be made available.
It is crucial that any issues are identified and resolved as early as possible, and the
new system is rigorously tested and piloted before being fully implemented across
the business. To ensure this, it is vital that all key staff are involved and informed
about the progress and implementation through appropriate communication channels
and targeted updates.
