Although our thoughts and actions come from within, we are often influenced by those around us whether we realize it or not. The physical and social environment, culture of our family, friends, and other influences all play a role in how we perceive situations and how we react. Last week we talked about motivation, arousal, stress, and anxiety. This week we are discussing competition, cooperation, feedback, reinforcement, and intrinsic motivation. For the CAP 2 assignment, you are required to discuss how these factors overlap and affect each other related to your population.
Discuss how your client’s (population) physical and social environment, family culture, and other pertinent influences can affect their motivation, arousal, stress, anxiety, desire to compete, and their need of feedback and reinforcement. Ex: If your target population is a high school athlete, how does their social life at school affect their desire to play? Are they intrinsically motivated to play a sport because they love it or extrinsically motivated by popularity and the potential to get a scholarship? Is one better than the other? If your target population is a child between the ages of 8-12 and the parents do not reinforce healthy eating and regular physical activity, can it effect the child’s future? Does it motivate them to want to be healthy since their parents are not or do they become a product of their environment?
Prior to writing clearly identify your populations Physical Environment, Social Environment, Family Culture, and include any other factors you deem important.
After identifying those those, choose 4 of the following:
Motivation, Arousal, Stress, Anxiety, Desire to Compete, Need for Feedback, Reinforcement and write a paragraph for each on how their Physical Environment, Social Environment, Family Culture, or any other factors you deem important can influence your target population.
There is no page length (though 2 pages may be to little of an effort). Students are encourage to be thorough in your explanation. You must include a MINIMUM of two peer reviewed sources both cited and referenced in the paper by APA standards. Remember, any reference listed on the reference page must be DIRECTLY cited in the paper. It is also recommended that you refrain from direct quotes. Paraphrase the information and use the source as support.
Keep in mind that you are encouraged to incorporate the lecture, textbook, and credible outside sources into your writing to strengthen your thoughts. All written submissions should reflect current APA, professionalism in grammar, spelling, writing style/format (one-inch margins, double spaced, typed in 12-point font), include APA citations when appropriate, an APA appropriate title page, and be uploaded as .doc or .docx documents.
