1000 words I am interested in a PhD at your institution because I wish to further my analytical research and become a professor at the university level. My plan is to be a top scholar of writing, communication, literature, and research. I am interested in being introduced to the teaching of writing, the history of rhetoric, current issues and research methods in rhetoric and composition, contemporary theories of interpretation, and interconnections among literature, rhetoric, and composition. I wish to understand rhetorical history and theory, composition pedagogy, writing program administration, and community literacy. I wish to become an expert in the art and study of using language effectively and persuasively in order to influence, inform or persuade an audience—developing a deep understanding of how different forms of communication can be used to create meaning and influence. Further plans: obtain a professor position, expert in my field & continue a fruitful research career. Current job: adjunct English instructor Research: Master’s project in the race, class, and identity issues in Passing by Nella Larsen This research encouraged to further my research career. I plan to continue researching themes in the work by African American writers and artists during the Harlem Renaissance .
