Reading Journal: Each student will keep a reading journal based on the assigned readings in class. There
are 7 sets of assigned readings. For each reading, students will list the assigned reading, how much of the
reading they completed and will include the following:
 Outline of major topics with 2-3 sentences summarizing each of the major topics
 Identification of 3 topics that caught your attention with 2-3 sentences summarizing your
thoughts about the topics and questions you would like to further explore about each topic
 Identification of 3 major take-aways that you feel confident will be instrumental in your success
in your profession, and 2-3 sentences identifying a plan for advancing your knowledge/skill
related to each take-away
Each entry should be approximately 3-5 pages double spaced. Each piece of information should be
marked with a page number so that you can go back and easily review the information.
The journal is to be written in first person and the goal is that it will be used for a study aid for the course exams as
well as for preparation for your future licensure exams. This can be done in an outline or bullet-point format.
