Hello Professor and class, I changed my subject because I feel like I chose too broad of a topic and was really struggling to narrow the focus to a single solution.
Thesis: South Carolina should legalize medical marijuana because it will help reduce the use and abuse of more harmful prescription medications. The key stakeholders in this discussion are people like me (I have multiple sclerosis) who suffer from conditions that marijuana can effectively treat, or at least alleviate symptoms, but who are forced into taking much stronger and more harmful pharmaceutical medications. Other stakeholders are doctors and pharmacists, business people who could operate dispensaries, people taking prescription medications, narcotic painkillers in particular. I think we do not hear enough from people whose lives have already been damaged by prescription medications that they took at their doctors suggestion because they didn’t have another option available to them. Also, people who have chosen to use marijuana to treat themselves despite it being illegal and have had to pay the legal consequences for that. I believe that most stakeholders will agree that many prescription medications can be very dangerous or addictive and would want safer alternatives. Search terms that I will use to find find common ground include prescription abuse, pain management, opioid crisis…..
