Social scientists have observed that many human experiences previously regarded as a normal part of the human condition (sadness, addiction, anger, etc.), are now increasingly understood as medical problems, and therefore necessitating diagnosis and treatment with drugs. This process is called “medicalization”. For example, in what ways can medicalization be seen as a benefit? In what ways can medicalization be viewed as a problem?
