Integrated Assignment 2: Critical Writing
This assignment will assess your ability to generate critical responses to modern research in a
succinct manner. You read two research articles: Damsio (1998) and Dalgleish (2004). Be
sure to read both articles and write a response (~3 pages). It is recommended to include three
sections: the first section should be a summary of the paper’s content; the second section
should respond to critical thinking questions that are listed below; the third section should
describe how you would like to apply the findings in the article(s) in daily life.
Damasio (1998) & Dalgleish (2004): How are the amygdala, PFC, anterior cingulated
cortex and hypothalamus involved in emotional processing? Why did Damasio have
problem with the use of the concept “limbic system”? How to differentiate “emotion”
and “feeling”? Is this distinction necessary?
The integrated writing assignment will be graded based on the ability to understand the
material, critical thinking, and ability to apply these findings (please see the rubric for details).
Make sure that the paper is 12 pt Times New Roman font and is double-spaced. Use APA
format, but the front page is NOT necessary.
