This test serves as a critical thinking exercise and is based on the attached New York Times articles.
The examination consists of four questions; you have a half page to answer each question, for a total of two pages. Please use a 12 point font and spacing is up to you. Please include page numbers and use a header for your submission.
You are expected to reference relevant information from lectures, required readings and student exercises to develop and to defend your answers.
Although this is a take-home (open book) exam, this is not a group project; each student should work independently. Please upload your submission via Canvas no later than Monday, August 7 at 6:00pm.

During the semester, we explored best practices related to major, leadership and campaign giving processes. This included various approaches to making the appointment, making the leadership ask, responding to objections, and following-up after the ask to provide recognition and stewardship.
The New York Times published the below articles focusing on Ms. Scott’s recent philanthropic contributions. This article reviewed her philanthropic interests.
Assume Ms. Scott has been a loyal annual supporter of your organization. Based on Laura Fredricks readiness formula (education+involvement+cultivation+inclination+assets), you and your leadership team determined it is the right time to ask Ms. Scott to consider a significant leadership invitation.
Answer the following questions using information gleaned about Ms. Scott from The New York Times article linked below.
1). Explain how you would categorize Ms. Scott into one or more of the ‘seven faces’ of philanthropy. How would you evaluate her motivations for making this gift? Explain how this information would influence your strategy when approaching Ms. Scott for a major leadership-ask. (25 points)
2). We have learned various approaches and recommendations for scriipting a major gift ask as described by the authors of our texts this semester, along with our in-class lecture. Drawing from these resources, convey (and explain) three distinctive recommendations you believe are most important in preparing an effective scriipt for your primary player and the Director of Major Gifts for the leadership-ask meeting with Ms. Scott. (25 points)
3). Anticipate and convey three potential objections which Ms. Scott and her advisors might respond to your leadership ask (other than “NO”). How would you respond to each objection? (25 points)
4). If Ms. Scott says ‘yes’, how will you follow up during the initial six months? (25 points)
