In 2007 Bayer created the Child Care Program or (CCP) which had a main focus on eliminating children labor, and placing those children into schools. The creation of this program also coincided with closing of a complaint made by an NGO, that was being investigated by the OECD(Subramanian,2011). Regardless of the reason this corporate social responsibility initiative drastically reduced the number of children out in the future over a short period of time. Bayer was able to help place children in school and provide resources needed, such as educated teachers, extra-curricular learning time, and meals to help maintain attendance. They also educated farmers on the importance of not using child labor. Along with that education came monitoring, sanctions, and incentives. Those that were found to use child labor would receive sanctions, and those that did not were able to receive a bonus each year.
This case illustrates the importance of corporate sustainability initiatives in every organization. My employee outlines in their code of ethics, dealer code of conduct, and supplier code of conduct the expectation and commitment to labor and human rights and child labor with all channel partnerships around the world ( John Deere,2022). Most organizations have come to understand that through CSR initiatives they can improve the community they are profiting in to provide better quality of life , better environmental situations, and more educated employees. These activities aid with brand imagine, but they also create a better environment and economy for current and future generations to come.
