In 1969, 3M created a branch in Taiwan, offering over 30,000 goods in transportation, health care, security, and other industries (Williams, et. Al., 2011). Tiawan encouraged a lot of research and development to happen and after 15 years of operating in Tiawan a new national manager was appointed to 3M Taiwan, Kenneth Yu who changed 3M Tiawan into a subsidiary. This subsidiary went beyond the goals of 3m and did its own product development, which ended up increasing sales and expanded the business. When 3M created hydrocolloid dressing for wounds but was later transformed into acne treatment. The Taiwan 3M faced challenges in deciding if they should offer it. Society as a whole relied on natural or traditional ways to handle acne, Acne Dressing would be an entirely new idea and product for the culture. They would have to market it in a way that would change the way the target market thinks of acne treatment. It was thought that this product would have a high ability to transform the market if they could figure out how to market it. With the limited knowledge Chung, leader of the healthcare division had to make a decision that could drastically change 3M Taiwan. With Taiwan, leading at number 10 in the world at healthcare innovation it seems this product would be welcomed and provide great changes to the way 3M Taiwan operates.
