RE: Week 9 Discussion
Good Morning, Professor and Classmates!
This week, we are tasked with identifying three risks that affect small businesses that are caused by personnel issues.
Embezzlement – Theft by employees or other trusted employees in a firm is called embezzlement. It usually entails diverting business revenue to the employee, but it can also involve the theft of items, office supplies, or even confidential information. I would manage this risk by implementing a strict pre-employment screening process. I would take my time to ensure that they are trustworthy. Review their social media profiles, call their references, and run a background check.
Lawsuits from Injured or Unhappy Employees – Employee lawsuits can be challenging to deal with because emotions are strong and personal issues are frequently brought up in work-related circumstances. This can have a significant negative influence on employee morale and reputation. As a small business, I would mitigate this risk by providing employment-related training to employees. All employees should receive basic job-related training. I would consider hiring an attorney to conduct training. I would also make sure that my business is insured properly for work-related job injuries.
Client loss due to poor service – This can significantly influence your company’s overall health. It can harm sales in the short term, and it can affect the business in the long run as well. Implementing specialized initiatives for employees ahead of time can reduce the risk of losing customers due to poor customer service. I would also consider hiring a third-party organization to execute training and oversight programs.
Finally, performing risk analysis and developing a risk management plan for my small business would allow me to learn more about the company while getting to know myself better, my partners, and my customers better.
I hope everyone has a good week.

RE: Week 10 Discussion
Good afternoon class,
As a new small business owner, ensuring effective hiring involves crafting clear job descriptions, conducting thorough interviews, and checking references. Assessing not only skills but also cultural fit is crucial. To manage virtual employees, establish transparent communication channels, set clear expectations, and leverage collaboration tools. Regular check-ins and goal-setting can boost productivity. One benefit that motivated me as an employee was professional development opportunities. Offering skill enhancement workshops or career growth paths can inspire and motivate employees to excel in their roles while investing in their future within the company.
