Each of us is unique in our own way and has group identities that define us. Increasing self-awareness of our own cultural background helps us understand ourselves and others. The result of this exercise provides recognition of the vast differences between people and the importance of identities. It is important to recognize that we all have group identities and these influence what we think and do. Also, our own identities are fluid and change over time. Research, including our approach to it, our focus and our outcomes, is largely a result of who we are.
In an MS Word or Excel document, to the degree that you are comfortable, create a pie chart to identify group affiliations that have importance, and define your cultural background. Examples might include student, woman, Christian, Asian, parent, or occupation. Indicate the approximate importance of each group affiliation by the size of the slice of the pie.
On the Forum, attach your pie chart. Respond to at least four other pie charts, and, when posting your own, comment on the following questions:
