Each discussion board will offer you one specific question for you to share your thoughts, and then offer a list of several additional questions to reflect upon. You will also be required to respond to your classmates’ initial posts and develop an ongoing professional discussion with one another. I will be reading all of the posts and participating in some as well. Therefore, each DB will consist of three main portions overall:
Required Question/Topic
Choice Question/Topic
Responses to classmates’ initial posts
The questions or topics in each discussion board are to be used as probing questions for facilitating a professional and ongoing conversation. Discussion boards will cover information within the module to reflect assigned readings and resources, assignments, and reflective application that are intended to help you grow in your educational path and into your ‘teaching persona’. Many times discussion boards end up with students saying that they feel they are repeating the same thing their peers are posting, so to avoid that in this course you have the option to choose (for the second portion of your post) the question or questions that you would like to use as your starting point for your discussion board post. For the submission of this discussion board, you will type your post addressing both the required and choice question.

Discussion Board 1 Questions/Topics
PART 1 – Required Question/Topic:
What role does motivation (intrinsic AND extrinsic) play in the learning environment? How do you plan to facilitate and support both forms of motivation for yourself in this class (EDN 301) and in your future classroom for your future students?
I would expect respondents to utilize at least one full paragraph for their responses.
Please provide a textbook or assigned reading reference or citation.
PART 2 – Choice Question(s)/Topic(s):
(You must choose at least one option below)
What do you know about the instructional design process and how does it relate to the learning environment (address both face-to-face and online)?
To what extent should the business of schools be concerned about the social context of children?
What are the instructional implications of adapting aspects of student-initiated learning in a classroom?
Compare direct instruction and active learning. How might you use them (either online or face-to-face)? How and when can each be effective?
I would expect respondents to utilize at least one full paragraph for their responses.
Please provide a textbook or assigned reading reference or citation.
PART 3 – Professional Conversations:
Respond to at least 3 of your classmates’ initial posts for this discussion board. The number of classmate’s that is required for you to respond to is not very high because the purpose is to develop in-depth conversations and it is not easy to do that with a multitude of people. With that said, please make sure your conversations with one another are professional, respectful, and reflect a conversation that would help you and your peer grow pedagogically.
