Discussion 9 (Read Okorafor, Binti, pp. 1-90.)
This discussion has TWO parts. You will need to complete both parts on time for full credit. NOTE: Please do not post a blank post and then, later, post a completed one. If you do this, I will not give you credit for the post. I want you to write your post without seeing those of your classmates.
Part 1. After you have read Binti and watched the YouTube video about Afrofuturism, answer the following questions:
In what ways would you argue that Binti is afrofuturist? Try to go beyond the obvious here. (At least 4 sentences.)
Compare and contrast Binti to Parable of the Sower. (At least 6 sentences.)
I have argued that many works of visionary fiction are trying to teach us lessons about how to make the world better or to behave more justly. What lesson(s) is Binti trying to teach us? (At least 5 sentences.)
Part 2. After you’ve posted, reply to TWO posts by classmates. I think it would make sense to concentrate your response on either #2 or #3 in their post (or both). You can share a similar reaction, ask questions, or suggest other ideas or perspectives. Regardless, your replies should be friendly and constructive. Each of your replies should be at least 3 sentences. Note: your responses must also be completed by the deadline to receive full credit.
