This is your culminating project for this course. The goal of this assignment is for you to take everything you have learned during the course (i.e., the purpose and goals of assessment, psychometric properties, how & what to assess, and item-type qualities and guidelines) and apply it to an assessment that you would use in practice as an educator.
For this assignment you must: (1) select an assessment domain of your choosing to align with your professional experience, 2) create a new assessment (or overhaul an existing assessment) of at least 10 items including at least two types of traditional assessment items and at least one item/component that requires you to develop a short rubric, and 3) submit a written or recorded critique of your assessment in which you explore the purpose and goals of the assessment, your steps to provide strong psychometric properties for your assessment, item-type information, and provide tangible improvements for the future.
Your critique should include both information from the course materials as well as a minimum of three and a maximum of 10 references outside the course. These references will support, defend, or explain the statements and ideas you provide in your critique. Please include a reference list/slide/credits roll/etc in your critique in any consistent professional publication style (e.g., APA, Chicago, MLA).
You will be graded on your accurate use of assessment properties in the creation of your assessment, the comprehensiveness of your critique (i.e., goals of assessment, validity, reliability, fairness, item-type desсrіption, and level of depth of suggestions for improvement).
Guidelines:
1. Paper: approximately 8-10 pages
Recording: approximately 8-10 minutes
2. You must include a copy of the assessment that you create and critique. This is not included in the page limit for the project.
3. You must include a brief desсrіption of the assessment including the assessment domain, intended ages/grade levels of test-takers, purpose/goals of assessment, and any other pertinent information. This should be no longer than 5-7 sentences.
4. Your paper should critique and evaluate, not just list characteristics of, your assessment. It should include both depth and breadth and should indicate thoughtfulness, depth of processing, and effort.
