Students will utilize Burgess’s text, Part II Crafting Engaging Lessons to prepare a 3-5 page document including the following:
Lessons: An outline of 3-4 lessons enhanced by the different components of the text. Lessons should include:
Implementation of PIRATE components: Comment on each of the key components of Burgess’s definitions of PIRATE (Passion, Immersion, Rapport, Ask and Analyze, Transformation and Enthusiasm) in relationship to the unit/lessons you’ve chosen. How will these components impact your lessons; how will they change how you teach them? Provide an example of how you plan to implement these components (where applicable) and a summary of such.
Implementation of HOOKS: Part II of the text is packed with different ideas on how to engage your learners. Within each of the lessons outlined include examples of a minimum of 1 hook. These hooks can be things you’ve used in the past, or they can entail the new learning you’ve taken from this text.
Reflection Paragraph: In a final paragraph, please reflect on what you have learned during this course and discuss any ideas you have for future learning.
