Prompt: It is early 1969, the first year of Richard Nixon’s presidency. You, a book reviewer at a newspaper or magazine of your choice, have just received one of the soon-to-be released
books listed below (and on the syllabus) for review. Utilizing the book, assigned primary sources, your personal feelings about America in the aftermath of 1968, and your knowledge
of the current domestic and international events, write an argument-driven book review for a popular audience. You should consider, but not feel limited by, the following questions: Is it
a “good” book? Are there elements of the book you were critical of and/or did not enjoy? Do you think it will have a popular audience among Americans in 1969? Does the book
have any significant themes, morals, or messages that you think will resonate with Americans in 1969? Why or why not?
The paper should have an introduction that lays out your specific argument to be defended in the paper, supporting paragraphs that utilize the book and assigned primary sources, and a short
conclusion.
