-Part 1
Review the following four problem statements. Select one of the problem statements, and in your initial post, rewrite the problem statement in a clear, concise format as described in the attached “Chapter 3” link.
• Our process for making widgets cannot fulfill the customer order requirements.
• The process for admitting patients takes too long.
• The applications for loans have too many errors.
• Inventory is too high and needs to be minimized.
-Part 2
Offer critique of the fellow peers’ problem statement rewrites below. Offer suggestions for improvement or commentary as to why it is now a well-stated problem statement.
“Hi classmates,
Inventory is too high and needs to be minimized” could be expanded as follows. Inventory is too high and needs to be reduced, could aggressive marketing combined with sales incentives create a pull market? Thus reducing inventory. Research questions are the translation of the problem of the organization into a specific need for information (Sekaran & Bougie 2016). Having a well defined problem affords the ability to focus research efforts. A good problem statement includes both a statement of the research objectives and the research question ( Sekaran & Bougie 2016).
While there could be a host of issues that result in over stock in this situation, its assumed that there would be access to primary and secondary data available to aid in defining the said research problem. According to the textbook, this type of study appears to fall under a causal study, in that its “conducted to establish cause-and -effect relationships among variables”.
