In this assignment, you will begin to draft the discussion question and rubric for your Canvas course shell (see Unit 6 Assignment).
Topic: Mental Health in Older Adults
Part 1
Create a word document with a title page and the information below.
The discussion question should be taken from the topic for the Canvas module you are working on. (See topic above).
When considering your question, think about discussion questions you have answered in the past and the objectives you wrote for your assignment last week.
Your discussion question should have several components or levels the learner must answer.
Consider some of the discussion questions in this course and the ones you have answered in the past. You can be creative in writing your questions, such as, does a scenario fit the topic, do you want the learner to give examples, or should they bring in their personal experiences as well as references.
Also, think about the objectives for this module and be sure the discussion question reflects at least one of the objectives.
Objectives are as follows:
To identify the typical mental health conditions that affect older persons, such as
Alzheimer’s disease, anxiety, and depression.
 To recall indicators encompassing isolation from society, chronic sickness, and grief
connected to mental health problems in older people.
 To explain how aging affects psychological health and how physical and mental health
interplay in older persons.
 To identify the warning signs and symptoms of mental health issues in older persons and
explain how they vary from aging naturally
To utilize appropriate instruments and approaches for evaluation to check older persons
for mental health issues.
 To create tailored treatment strategies that include evidence-based treatments for older
adults with mental disorders.
 To objectively analyze moral and legal concerns, such as questions of ability and consent,
which arise while delivering mental health treatment to older people.
 To evaluate patient results and standard of life when assessing the efficacy of therapies
and techniques for managing mental health issues in older persons.
Part 2
In the second part of this assignment:
Decide how many points the question is worth and create a rubric to grade the discussion question.
There are several types of rubrics that measure in different ways, create your rubric to measure the learner’s answer.
Do not copy the Herzing discussion question rubric, but create a rubric that works for your question in a way that you would like to evaluate the student.
