For this, you will be watching a short video of children playing. While you are watching, take notes on the evidence of learning and development that you see in the play. There is a template you will fill out where you will describe what you are seeing.
<
<
Here is the video. This one is long, and there are several children present. Instead of “which video” tell me which child you saw doing the actions you are describing. Also, give an approximate time stamp so I can verify what you are describing. Watch the video as many times as you need to – ONLY WATCH/COMMENT ON THIS VIDEO.
<
<
The template is in the Assignment Information Module. Type directly into the template, do not recreate it.
<
<
For this investigation, we are focusing on ALL AREAS OF LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT. There are no optional areas on the template, you should be able to find something for each area.
<
<
You will see that for each domain there are two lines – please give one example for each line (each domain will have two examples).
<
<
I will give you feedback to help you develop your observation and authentic assessment skills. Do your best – and remember, details and examples will be needed so I can clearly understand your thinking.
<
<
The DEL standards Links to an external site. may help you better understand what falls into each domain, just be careful that you are selecting the correct domain – there are some that combine skills from two domains (Language and Literacy, for example). I also will attached another same assignment and the feedback the teacher gave so you can see examples. Here is the video to watch https://youtube.com/watch?v=Z9tJBluH1Zw&feature=sharec. This is the feedback from the teacher Most you had great examples, but there were many of you that only gave one example for each video (for each domain) or you were vague. Please use the rubric. If it says you need 2-3 for each video, you need two to three for each video. The rubric is literally how I grade you.
<
<
Being vague was a big issue for many of you. Telling me “they were playing” doesn’t tell me that you understand what you saw or how it relates to the standards. “They were cooperating and taking turns”, or “they were playing a cooperative game and following unspoken group rules” is much more descriptive – I can see what you writing about.
<
<
Another place where vagueness was an issue was talking about emotions – “she was happy” tells me nothing. “She was smiling and laughing” is much more descriptive, I can visualize that. Tell me what you saw or heard, not what you think it means.
<
<
Here are some examples from your papers to give you a clearer idea of what some of the domains may look like (I stole these from some of you submissions):
<
<
Gross motor:
<
<
Video #1 Uses arms to hold board further away so he must reach for it to get it, uses arms to prop herself on table when he takes the board, uses her legs to stand up out of chair and prop her arms on table, stands to do the puzzle, and uses arms to hold up for cheering.
<
Video #2 Uses legs to run after sliding, uses legs to walk up steps, uses her arms for swaying back and forth running, and uses legs to jump, legs and arms to climb up equipment.
<
<
You see how she was specific and gave clear examples? You can visual what the child was doing.
<
<
Approaches to Learning/Cognitive:
<
<
First Video She is using approaches learning when she is no able to get the final puzzle piece. Instead of getting frustrated and not completing it she is constantly trying complete the puzzle.
<
Second Video Joy is using approach to learning when she is using her imagination and play to “find monsters” on the playground.
<
<
Again, she is specific and you can visual what is happening AND it relates to what is in the DEL standards about imagination and persistance.
<
<
Which leads me to my next topic – the DEL standards. I think more of you are using them, but many are still not. These standards are guidelines and will help you better understand what goes in each domain. USE THEM. The standards are linked in the Assignment Information Module. The 3rd attachment will be example of this assignment
