Aviation safety technology and application developments continue at a rapid pace. Advances in artificial intelligence in the development of automation, avionics, and flight data management systems are expected to continue to affect the data analytic process. Additionally, developments in software applications, particularly in data mining and predictive modeling, create opportunities to enhance aviation safety data processes.
Overview:
As new technologies develop, the collection and processing capabilities are expected to develop as well. For example, Honeywell has begun the development and implementation of display and alerting technologies based on flight path aviation data (airspeed, aircraft configuration, navigational data, and airport/runway) that will be used to display to the crew the optimal flight path that the aircraft needs to fly to land safely. Also, the introduction and development of Satellite Data Units (SDUs) in modern airliners has allowed the streaming of data in real time between the aircraft and operations personnel on the ground. In this module, we will examine and analyze examples of these new technologies and the effect they may have on aviation safety data analytic and management processes.
