Complete the information below:
1. Supporting Literature: Search a minimum of five literature related to the Proposal topic above. In your review of recent (3 years) empirical literature, what keywords did you search, and in what databases?
2. What social problem prompted you to search the literature to find out more? Write in complete sentences using a scholarly tone.
Social Problem
(a) First, define the social issue and provide evidence (through citation) of its scope and relevance to the discipline of public policy or public administration. This might require that you find up-to-date statistics gathered from the public agency responsible for its collection and interpret trends.
Example: There is a problem in __________ (society, organization, institution, policy, etc.). This problem impacts __________ (name the population) because __________ (describe the impact) (MANDATORY: insert your current, peer-reviewed evidence/data and source that identifies the severity – why the problem is worth studying).
(b) Now, refer to the five studies you have previously summarized in the Supporting Literature Section above and reflect on common findings or common research approaches and consider how researchers have approached the study of the issues to date from the discipline’s perspective. Summarize this body of research (with citation) in a few sentences so you can delineate for the reader what you believe researchers have come to know and what the gaps currently are in the research literature.
Example: Literature reviewed for this study identified _______________ theme(s) as the foundation for the focus of other researcher’s studies (insert at least three different main focuses of the five articles AND provide current peer-reviewed sources from your AB synthesis-include at least three themes and sources).
3. Gap: Follow this by thinking critically about what you have observed in the finding during your cursory review of the research literature to help you identify what was missing. What data is missing? What makes your study unique?
Example: Although researchers have investigated this social problem, there is very little or no literature on ____________________________________
4. Research Problem:
Finally, identify what researchers do not know about the research problem, what still needs to be investigated (Note – alignment – is the data identified in the gap what is needed to address this problem).
Example Quantitative Research Problem Sentence: The specific research problem is it is not known whether/to what extent________
Example Qualitative Research Problem Sentence: The specific research problem is that there is a lack of understanding about______
Pay close attention to your writing (grammar and typos), use of citation (must use APA with precision), and with how you move the reader through the one to two paragraphs.
